Halloween, Prom and What Have You

31st of October marked the last day of well, October. Ignoring the simple redundancy I have just made there, Trinity College's Annual Ball took place on that day.

The gala event kicked off with hordes of students all dismissing their usual style of dressing and turning up at the venue, Grand Hyatt Hotel, clad in spectacular displays of suits, ties, dresses and shiny accessories. I had myself wore a white suit paired with white pants while concealing a navy-colored shirt inside adorned by a shiny white tie decorated with yellow stripes.

The theme, with much reference to the venue, was Live from the Red Carpet. So of course, everyone had themselves look as glamorous as possible. I must admit that I was quite surprised by many of the ladies that night.

Girls whom you would never had paid much attention to their style of dressing in college drastically morphed into beauties that exude such an intense and attractive aura that the moment you divert your gaze away from them, your eyes beckon for you to look once again.

The Ball started at 7.30pm after the relentless efforts of all the organizing staffs' to usher people who were so obsessed with snapping photos here and there into the ballroom. I was seated at table 15, along with Caitlin and gang. Caitlin and Ryan, being the presidents of the committee members, gave a short welcoming speech and dinner started with a serving of an entree-sized King Prawns. The dish was not overly fantastic so I shall not elaborate further on it.

After a few moments, people started gathering around taking photos. I was no exception. Ivan was invited to perform. He pulled off his final performance in the year with two songs, a soulful rendition of Steven Curtis Chapman's 'I Will Be Here' and David Cook's 'Time of My Life'. His performance garnered such thunderous applause as never witnessed in tribute for his ultimate performance we will ever get to enjoy.

Li-Shen and Ivan were up next. Li-Shen gave a heart-wrenching 'Tomorrow' by Avril Lavigne and also a hyped-up 'Accidentally in Love'. Then there was Rieko and Momoko, who performed a dance and played the violin respectively.

Pictures after pictures were taken. My eyes could barely take in the consecutive flashes aimed at me.

The Awards for the night was quite interesting though. I was nominated for the Best Dress Award - Male. Which was kinda ironic, considering how underdressed I was for the night. Nevertheless, Mojo won the prize rightfully. As for the females, the crown/tiara went to Tiffany Chin. She was absolutely stunning that night. Best Performance was given to Ivan. Mr. Trinity fell to Nirwan, who, though faced with strong competitions such as the likes of Alastair, Ryan, Nicholas Duar and Kenneth Lee, emerged victorious. Ms. Trinity however, was bestowed rightfully upon Bee Bee, who with such an amazing talent in dancing and a bright and nice personality coupled with stable academic achievements would have been questioned if she had not won the award.

The dance floor was opened up for everyone and I mean everyone. All the teachers joined in to have some fun and everyone was dancing. Truly a night to remember.

So concludes the Prom. So concludes the last Trinity Event that I shall ever attend, save the Valedictory Ceremony of course.

Onward people! To the Exams!
